Dennis Liegghio

He is also the author of Building a Foundation for Happiness - an ebook published on his blog at, and an independent singer-songwriter with his friends in the Student Driver Band.

Dennis was 14 years old when he lost his father to suicide and their last words were in anger. He blamed himself for his dad’s death and struggled with depression and thoughts of suicide for many years following his death. A song that he wrote about this experience was the turning point towards overcoming this traumatic loss and the inspiration for founding KnowResolve.

Since starting up KnowResolve in 2007, Dennis has shared his personal story, his music, and a message of hope and resilience with more than 50,000 teens and young adults across the country.

"I am humbled and honored to have received this award from the Twilight Foundation, and to have been nominated by my friend Laurie Tarter. I hope in some way that our outreach is helping teens and young adults who are struggling find the strength to carry on as they navigate their lives and try to find their place in this world. Suicide remains a highly stigmatized subject, and I sincerely appreciate that the Twilight Foundation is helping us to spread the word. Many heartfelt thanks for the honor of this award and for your support!"
